The old factory of wallpapers “Isidore Leroy” is a site of memory for the city of Saint-Fargeau-Ponthierry but also for the history of national industry: founded in Paris in 1842, the company was transferred to Ponthierry, along Seine, in 1912. Yet Europe’s leader of wallpapers in the 70’s, Leroy has experienced a rapid decline that led to the closure of the factory in 1982.
A global project of redevelopment of the factory site is now creating new urban synergies. The first phase of this project involves the conversion of the thermal power plant, classified as historical monument, into a cultural center with several areas including a place of memory.
Anamnesia was mandated to conduct a study of definition that will focus on the development of the place of memory, a real bridge between past and present.
